Description
Atopobium vaginae is a bacterium found naturally in the vaginal microflora. It belongs to the family Atopobiaceae and is known for its role in balancing vaginal flora and its potential impact on reproductive health problems. A. vaginae is frequently found in patients with bacterial vaginosis. This is a vaginal dysbiosis characterised by an imbalance of the vagina and symptoms may include unpleasant odour, white or grey discharge, itching and burning. Atopobium vaginae is not commonly associated with male genital infections, but men can be carriers of the bacteria and potential carriers of infections.
