ATPO | Antibodies against thyroid peroxidase

Antithyroid peroxidase (ATPO) (antithyroid microsomal antibodies) is one of the most important indicators of the thyroid autoimmune process. ATPO is often detected together with anti-TG. ATPO should be detected as early as possible, as hypothyroidism is often detected as an already established fact. Early detection of ATPO allows timely diagnosis of an autoimmune process (for example, Hashimoto's thyroiditis) at a stage when there are no signs of pronounced hypothyroidism. The ATPO test is performed to detect thyroid pathology and to confirm the etiological factors of the disease. Determination of ATPO and cytological analysis of the thyroid gland aspirate (lymphocytic infiltration is found) allows avoiding unnecessary surgical intervention. Determination of ATPO concentration can also be used in suspected thyroid pathology occurring after childbirth.
