Chlamydia Trachomatis is a widespread infection that localizes in the genital mucosa, including the urethra, cervix, and rectum. There may be no symptoms, especially in the early stages. The first symptoms can appear three weeks after having sex with a person infected with chlamydia. In women, there is a change in vaginal discharge, bleeding between periods or after intercourse, a burning sensation when urinating, and pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen. Men experience discharge from the penis, burning when urinating and pain in the testicles. Untreated infection can cause serious complications (urethritis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, epididymitis, proctitis) and be transmitted to sexual partners. Regular testing and early treatment are essential to managing chlamydia infection and preventing its spread.
