HBs Ag | Hepatitis B surface antigen

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) - This test indicates the presence of hepatitis B virus infection. HBsAg is the first immunological marker, usually appearing a few days or weeks before the onset of clinical symptoms. HBsAg is detected in the blood of individuals with acute or chronic viral hepatitis B. HBsAg tests are used in diagnostic procedures to identify individuals infected with HBV and to protect against transmission of hepatitis B virus through blood and blood products. HBsAg tests are also used to monitor the course of the disease in individuals with acute or chronic HBV infections and, if necessary, to check the effectiveness of antiviral therapy. In addition, HBsAg tests are recommended before delivery so that appropriate measures can be taken to protect the newborn from the transmission of hepatitis B infection.
