Antibodies can usually be detected in the serum 6-12 weeks after infection. Transmission through blood, sexual contact, or an infected mother can transmit the infection to the fetus. After infection, the symptoms can be similar to the flu.

The certificate is issued to persons leaving to live or wishing to obtain long-term visas to some countries, to long-distance drivers leaving to study for a longer period of time, who wish to obtain citizenship of other countries. The certificate is an official document issued in three languages (Lithuanian, Russian and English) after the person has provided identification data.
